Tossa de Mar

Along with its close neighbour, Lloret de Mar, Tossa shares a long stretch of flawless sand and sheer blue sea. The town's 12th-Century walls with their formidable battlements and towers, its shimmering whitewashed homes and dazzling Old Town area are all supplements to the unrivalled atmosphere of the endlessly blue Mediterranean. Its two principal beaches, La Bauma and Mar Gran, are surrounded by many adjoining sandy areas where one can lounge in peace. Lined with traditional fishing boats and boasting a vivid traditional market, Tossa is a lively settlement where one might feel more at ease than in the fast-paced environment of Torremelinos. Its heyday dates back to the 18th and 19th Centuries, when it operated as an important port town, while the 20th Century rediscovered Tossa as a popular summer resort. The town has been home to many actors and artists, including Marc Chagall, while it currently strives to accommodate the annual flocks of international tourists.
