Lloret de Mar

Having started as a tiny fishing village, this resort has grown into a decidedly touristic destination. For years, however, it has attracted clientele on a limited budget, including backpackers and visitors coming on package tours, and still maintains a laid-back atmosphere. Lloret has a pleasant sandy beach, and retains its old quarter of traditional whitewashed houses and cobblestone lanes. Sadly, in recent years the overall serenity of the place has given way to a construction boom, with modern hotels popping up all over the place. Owing to the cheap room rates, the resort gets really busy during the summer peak months. Thus, real estate demand is on the rise. Be it a private house in the Old Town or a room in one of the trendy areas, one should book in advance. Otherwise, the resort has not yet completely succumbed to stark consumerism, and its surroundings allow for many scenic walks.
