www.europe-seaside.com - Amalfi

Amalfi is situated on the west coast of Italy, 70 kilometres south of Naples. It boasts the most spectacular stretch of coastline in Italy, known as the Amalfi Coast. The steep slopes and miraculous rock formations form breathtaking scenery that ranks Amalfi among the best holiday destinations in the Mediterranean. The wonderful subtropical climate, with continuous sun and heat from June to October, makes it the perfect spot for sunbathing and watersports.

The town of Amalfi is famed for its narrow, pebbly beaches nestled among high cliffs, which are a favourite summer retreat for Europeans and Neapolitans. This place is quite calm, and therefore is suitable for families. The main beach of Amalfi is pebbly and sometimes crowded. Fantastic white sandy beaches are available further east along the coast, around Minori and Maiori. The beaches at Positano and Ravello are also worth a visit if you're looking for romance and tranquility.

Amalfi has a picturesque and quaint old town centre. The town's cathedral is the main attraction, as well as Chiostro del Paradiso and Museo Civico. The narrow, steep Medieval streets are a much-loved place for strolling in the evening. When you get tired of sunbathing, a day-trip by boat to the islands of Capri and Ischia is advisable.
