Rhodes

The island of Rhodes lies only 18 kilometres off the Turkish shores. It's best known for the Colossus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Rhodes is a place where everyone will find something that fulfils their idea of a perfect holiday. Fabulous beaches, secluded gulfs, lush subtropical vegetation and plenty of entertainment and tourist attractions guarantee you an interesting experience. The island is said to be one of the sunniest places in Greece, with more than 300 sunny days a year.

Rhodes offers seaside resorts of a different type. Its capital, the city of Rhodes, is a traditional town with a traditional Greek atmosphere and a spectacular Old Town district with cobblestone streets and antiques shops. The Street of Knights and Medieval fortifications are the most famous sites. The charming village of Lindos in the east captivates visitors with its hospitable people, picturesque rocky surroundings and castle with an acropolis. Faliraki is the centre of nightlife on the island, and just north of it is the trendy resort of Kallithea. Both are surrounded by a number of rocky and sandy beaches with modern facilities and various watersports opportunities. The beaches in Ladiko, Afandou and Tsambika are worth a visit if you prefer seclusion or nude sunbathing.

The island is attractive away from the seaside, as well. The remains of the Acropolis of Ialyssos on Filerimos Hill, the ancient ruins of Kamiros and the castles of Monolithos and Kastellos don't just attract attention from archaeology experts.
